The name tvätthällan can be divided into two different words; tvätt means wash and hällan means rock surface. Basically it’s a place by the river where you can wash your clothes on the rock surface and that is exactly what this place was used for before. Umeå municipality built the grill cabin which was given the name tvätthällstugan (stugan means cabin). Nowadays the washing of clothes has been replaced by a popular place for our visitors in the arboretum and other people that just want to relax by the riverside. There is a fireplace both inside and outside the cabin and during the summer period there is firewood available.
