In an abandoned turbine sump where electrical energy was produced long ago, a meditating artist is now reflected in the black surface of the water. The glow of a spotlight is reflected in light ripples that become a ripple against the battered walls of the hall behind the orange-glowing figure. The solid becomes volatile, the bottom seems to disappear and the readiness becomes uncertain. From the outside, you can hear the leftover water from the power plant dam a bit upstream passing on its way to the sea.

Fredrik Wretman’s artwork is part of the Seven Rivers Art Trail project. A 35-mile-long art exhibition, stretching from the coast in Holmsund to Borgafjäll in the Southern Lapland Mountains with 13 different works of art.

2014. At the same time as Umeå was named European Capital of Culture, Arboretum Norr celebrated its 30th anniversary as a foundation, and 40th anniversary as an idea. Part of the celebration resulted in a random art exhibition in the Arboretum in Baggböle.

IN BETWEEN

Tria Arboreta
In between is a collaborative work that encapsulates the theme of movement, risk, challenge, the unknown, excitement, danger, opportunity, threat, wandering, adventure, temptation, travel, then, now and then, all that is encompassed by the word displacement. The work is an installation consisting of wood and wires that form “bridges” between the trees.

The SAcrilege

Ulla Thøgersen
The sacrilege is about how easy it is to transfer focus from the essential and important to the superfcial, the easy accessible the convenient with nostrings attached. We see refugees from wars and oppression that live their entire life in camps and barracks and we do nothing to change it. Althoughwe are aware of the environmental degradation we choose to buy milk fromGermany, we go on holidays by air across the world, and we conveniently go by car to the grocery store. How easy it is to imagine that if it’s not visible it does not exist. My work consists of “swaddling baby’s” laid out in the forest, forgotten and repressed, but nevertheless real. They will be a reminder of how we sacrifce humanity for short-term thinking and ideas

MOVEMENT

Rebecka Adelhult Felistoff
Movement will be an installation where the trees become part of the work. I will make a large number of backpacks that will each be attached to a tree. The backpacks will have an individual expression and will symbolize what we carry with us when we move from one place to another. Stories, emotions, tastes, smells or sounds, the bag can be as heavy as a rock or as light as a feather.

Sometimes I think about you

Carina Olsson
I spent part of my childhood in hospital. It was lonely. Sometimes I think about it. Sometimes I think about other things. About those that are uprooted, replanted and trying to re-root. About those that have nowhere to take root. About those that grow in poor soil. These things I think about. Sometimes.
